It's #NationalMargaritaDay! Don't we all need a day in February to drink Margaritas and think about spring? I do! And this #NationalMargaritaDay, Patrón sent me a big 'ol basket of tequila and specialty salts to inspire nothing less than copious amounts of margaritas.
While Margaritas are traditionally made with Tequila, lime, and agave syrup, I've got winter citrus on my mind this #NationalMargaritaDay. Meyer lemons are in season, the sweeter and more exotic cousin to the standard lemon. Meyer lemons and tequila get along swimmingly, and with a bit of agave and Curaçao the result is nothing less than pure magic. I added a pinch of fresh thyme on the top of the cocktail, just a bit of herbal freshness to cut through the sweetness of the meyer lemons. Patrón is a 100% Agave Tequila that is crisp and herbaceous and opens up gorgeously with a bit of salt, so I added a rim of salt spiked with meyer lemon zest to make this cocktail sing.
